The 15-month Associate Development Program is designed to nurture our internal talent and provide a path to a more rewarding career. Through a structured program that combines a comprehensive curriculum and on-the-job training, we introduce participants to the full loan lifecycle, from origination and underwriting to asset management and loan servicing. To maximize the impact of the program, we pair each associate with a sponsor, who serves as a mentor and sounding board. Upon successful completion of the program, associates will have the knowledge to become a contributing member to one of the firm’s business units.
What You’ll Learn
Each associate has a sponsor, who will work with them throughout the program. For each assigned rotation, the associate also has a Business Unit Rotation Coach.
- Sponsor:
- Provide a single point of contact for the Associate
- Oversee progress in the Program
- Ensure progression through the Program
- Establish regular meetings, informally, to meet with the Associate
- Interact with each assigned Rotation Coach to solicit feedback for the Associate’s Performance Evaluation
- Responsible for conducting the Associate’s performance review
- Responsible for timely transition to each scheduled rotation through communication with respective department head and Rotation Coach
- Rotation Coach:
- Works with the Committee on curriculum content specific to each business unit
- Communicates recommendations to the Committee for any proposed changes to the curriculum as necessary
- Fosters a relationship with the Associate to provide guidance and direction
- Facilitates consistent and meaningful work load assignment
- Ensures the work offers a suitable range of exposure
- Ensure the work assigned to the Associate through the course of their rotation meets the goals articulated in the curriculum
- Monitors the Associate’s progression toward achieving the curriculum outcome and shares information routinely with the assigned Sponsor regarding the Associate
- At the end of each rotation period, associates will receive a performance review to assist them with their development. The sponsor, with input from the various department heads and rotation coaches, will conduct the performance review.
Who are We Recruiting?
Current undergraduate students who are entering into their junior or senior year of college
• Applicable undergraduate majors include finance, real estate or related field of study
• Graduate students with a business curriculum, MBA or related field of study
• All summer interns should have Excel proficiency and a strong interest in commercial real estate
The Summer Internship Program is a 10-week program used to develop top talent and provide exposure to the commercial mortgage industry through a structured program of on-the-job analyst training in various support business units, lunch and learns and mentoring by industry leaders.
What You’ll Learn
Each intern has an analyst and originator who will support them throughout the program. During the 10-week Summer Internship Program, interns will receive exposure, hands-on training, and the analytical knowledge needed to help support the commercial mortgage loan process, including the following:
• Understanding of the loan process, from originations to post-closing
• Preliminary financial analysis for new construction and refinanced transactions
• Participation in client-facing activities, including borrower conference calls and local site visits for
construction projects
• Insights into risks and mitigants, including LTV, Letters of Credit, market conditions, exit strategies,
interest rates and property quality
• Processing of interest rate reduction analysis on active loans
• Exposure to bond documents and flow of funds
• Job shadowing with the trade desk, underwriting, construction administration and loan processing
support teams
• Lunch & learns delivered by leaders on important industry topics
